Our Work Is Exceptional.

The Client

FrancoForce is the result of a partnership among the 10 provincial governments to bring forth an idea launched by the Government of Quebec.  It aims to promote and display French language and culture in 13 cities across Canada as part of the celebrations for the 400th anniversary of Quebec City.

Their Need

Francoforce developed the unique idea of using a geodesic dome to showcase the unique and diverse entertainment talent that was assembled for this tour.  The talent included many of Quebec’s prominent musicians, artists and performers.  The dome was ideal to present stage acts, suspended aerial performers and artwork, display unique projected graphics, and house up to 440 audience members.  The dome required design validation to each location across Canada in order to satisfy local design requirements, such as wind loads and seismic forces.  Permit requirements differed across Canada, addressing issues such and the dome fabric fire resistance, audience fire safety, and structural issues related to its location.

Our Service

Jeff Truman holds engineering licenses across Canada and was able to develop the required design drawings and permit applications.  Jeff developed a unique design approach to design validation using SODA design software, which included an innovative method to develop the applied design loads.  Jeff worked with each municipality to obtain the required building permits, which were necessary for the event permit as well. This work often involved local presence, conferring with local designers and contractors, and working with municipal staff – sometimes over weekends in order to meet the opening date.
