“As part of our work as Project Manager for the fit-up of the Brantford Mall to support a new Municipal Office for the City of Brantford, TESI was asked to review the issues at the Gretzky Centre. The pool patrons were experiencing “weather events” inside the pool on colder mornings, particularly throughout the winter months, and would get “rained on” due to condensation falling from the ceiling. Resolving these issues, and then delivering the diving deck replacement project, highlighted TESI’s unique ability to address holistic building issues, and meet user and owner requirements.”
The Wayne Gretzky Centre in Brantford is a key recreational hub and carries the civic pride of its namesake. TESI performed a detailed review of the pool building envelope, including accessing the roof from the underside using a zoom boom and performed a detailed review of the HVAC equipment and operations. TESI ultimately developed a solution to improve the Drytron (dehumidification) and overall pool environmental settings to achieve the indoor conditions that would limit condensation and ensure pool users were comfortable.
TESI then designed the replacement of the diving deck system, and construction of a new office space inside the pool enclosure. Unique aspects of the work included corrosion protection aspects, safety and user issues on the diving platforms, and overall pool safety and maintenance issues were also incorporated. TESI worked closely with all pool management and staff to optimize the design and suit user requirements, then worked through the City of Brantford to issue and manage the tender and construction process.
